Story Idea

In a world where life is utterly predictable ...

In 20xx, everyone knows precisely when one will die of natural causes, down to the year, perhaps to the month, based on genetic characteristics and intra-utero formation. This is the maximum lifespan for every person known from the moment of birth. Of course, the calculation cannot predict unnatural causes, like accidents, homicides, suicides, war deaths, etc.

How would such knowledge change people's behaviors?

The premise itself sounds a bit like Gattaca, but Gattaca has always struck me as being too ... American. You can do anything if you try hard enough. The triumph of the human spirit. Blah, blah, blah. That's not what I want to write about.
